Weekly vs. Bi-Weekly Cleaning: Which Schedule Is Right for You?

The most common question we get. Here's how to decide based on your household size, lifestyle, and budget.

The Question We Get Asked More Than Any Other

"Should I book weekly or every two weeks?" It's the most common scheduling question we hear at Simply Done Cleaning, and the honest answer isn't one-size-fits-all. The right schedule depends on your household, your tolerance for mess between visits, and your budget. Here's how to think through it.

What Weekly Cleaning Looks Like

Weekly cleaning keeps your home in a consistent state of cleanliness. Because our team is in every seven days, nothing gets too far ahead of us. Each visit is efficient — surfaces haven't had two full weeks to accumulate dust and grime, bathrooms haven't had time to build up significant soap scum, and kitchens get reset before the end-of-week mess becomes a starting point for the next one.

Weekly cleaning is ideal when:

  • You have multiple children, especially young ones who generate consistent mess
  • You have several pets, particularly dogs who go in and out regularly
  • Your home is heavily used — large family, people working from home, frequent visitors
  • Someone in your household has allergies or asthma — more frequent cleaning means lower allergen levels consistently
  • You simply don't want to think about cleaning at all between visits and want the house reliably tidy
  • You entertain regularly and want the home guest-ready on short notice

What Bi-Weekly Cleaning Looks Like

Every two weeks is our most popular schedule. It's the balance point for most households — the home stays genuinely clean, not just tolerable, and the visits cover everything that needs attention without the cost of weekly service.

A bi-weekly visit takes slightly longer than a weekly one because there's two weeks of accumulation to address. But for most households, two weeks is a reasonable gap — dust settles but hasn't built up to visible layers, bathrooms are due for a reset but not neglected, kitchens need attention but aren't overwhelming.

Bi-weekly cleaning is ideal when:

  • You have a couple of children or one to two pets
  • You maintain light tidying between professional visits (putting things away, quick wipes)
  • Budget is a consideration and you'd rather spend less monthly without compromising quality
  • Your home is moderately sized and moderately used
  • You want professional cleaning without the frequency of a weekly schedule

A Realistic Cost Comparison

Our residential rate is $38/hour per cleaner. For a typical three-bedroom home:

  • Weekly clean: Approximately 2.5–3.5 hours per visit. Four visits per month = roughly $380 to $532/month
  • Bi-weekly clean: Approximately 3–4 hours per visit (slightly longer due to two-week accumulation). Two visits per month = roughly $228 to $304/month

The per-visit cost of bi-weekly is slightly higher than weekly because each visit takes a bit more time, but the monthly cost is significantly lower. Most clients find that bi-weekly hits the sweet spot of cleanliness and value.

The Middle Ground: Every-Three-Week or Monthly

Some households do fine with a professional clean every three weeks or once a month, especially if occupants are tidy by habit, the home is smaller, or there are no children or pets. Monthly cleaning should be treated more like a deep clean — there's more to address per visit.

We generally don't recommend monthly service for households with kids or multiple pets unless the occupants are also doing substantial cleaning in between.

Our Honest Recommendation

Start with bi-weekly and see how it feels. After two or three visits, you'll have a clear sense of whether the two-week gap feels right or whether the house is getting away from you between visits. Adjusting to weekly is easy. Most of our long-term bi-weekly clients never feel the need to change — it just works.
